A partnership to grow pickleball in Ukraine

WHY PICKLEBALL IN UKRAINE?

Life in Ukraine continues — and that is precisely why sport matters.

Pickleball, now one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, offers something uniquely valuable in moments of disruption. Its simplicity and accessibility enable people of all ages and abilities to reconnect quickly through play.

In Ukraine, pickleball supports physical recovery, mental relief, and social unity. It creates shared routines in which uncertainty dominates and brings children, seniors, and veterans onto the same court—as equals.

By developing pickleball during wartime, Ukraine is not withdrawing from the world. It is affirming its place in a global community — growing, participating, and moving forward alongside others.

Here, pickleball is practical resilience.

THE UKRAINIAN PICKLEBALL FEDERATION

Founded in 2023, the Ukrainian Pickleball Federation (UPF) has worked under extraordinary conditions. A small network of athletes, coaches, and volunteers began introducing pickleball in schools, gyms, and rehabilitation centers, adapting the game to limited resources and shifting realities. What started with borrowed paddles and improvised courts steadily evolved into a coordinated national effort focused on inclusion, accessibility, and continuity.

Despite ongoing national challenges, UPF has continued to expand the sport across Ukraine — supporting grassroots play, developing youth programs, and creating adaptive opportunities for seniors, veterans, and injured athletes. Its work has emphasized participation over spectacle, and long-term development over short-term visibility.

In March 2025, UPF led Ukraine to become the 60th member of the Global Pickleball Federation, formally establishing the country’s presence in the pickleball world. The Federation has also represented Ukraine internationally, including participation in major events such as the UK Open and the Pickleball World Cup in Florida.

UPF demonstrates that even in difficult times, unity, movement, and global participation can continue to grow.

ANYWHERE PICKLEBALL

Anywhere Pickleball was founded in California with something simple — paddles, a court, a few friends, and laughter echoing through a sunny afternoon. From the outset, Anywhere Pickleball approached pickleball as more than a recreational sport. The game’s accessibility and social nature offered a practical way to bring people together — supporting participation, respect, and shared experience on and off the court.

Today, Anywhere Pickleball develops high-quality, innovative equipment — from performance paddles to precision tools like the Protractor — built to meet the demands of serious play. Alongside product development, the organization supports initiatives that use sport to strengthen communities and create lasting, measurable impact.

Guided by its philosophy, We the Caring Picklers™, Anywhere Pickleball reframes play as an act of empathy. Picking up a paddle is not only about competition — it is about connection. Every serve carries the potential to serve someone else.

THE ALLIANCE

In June 2025, Anywhere Pickleball became the first U.S. pickleball brand to form an official alliance with the Ukrainian Pickleball Federation.

The cooperation began with two immediate, tangible commitments:

  • The donation of the first round of paddles and equipment to Ukraine in 2025, placing tools for play directly into the hands of players.

  • Free licensing of the patent-pending Pickleball Protractor for use in Ukraine enables standardized court layouts, coach education, and scalable training across regions with limited infrastructure. By removing cost and access barriers, UPF can consistently teach, train, and grow the sport—from temporary courts in schoolyards to public spaces—accelerating development without dependence.

On this foundation of shared responsibility, the two organizations co-designed the Freedom Fighter Paddle™ — a USAP-approved professional paddle designed to serve both the game and the players. One paddle competes. Another rebuilds.

This cooperation is sustained through participation. Your support helps keep equipment on courts, tools in coaches’ hands, and players in Ukraine sharing joy with the world.

CHALLENGES

The growth of pickleball in Ukraine has been achieved under complex and evolving conditions. Many of the challenges are shaped by wartime realities:

  • Infrastructure damage
Many gyms and activity centers have been destroyed or repurposed.

  • Equipment scarcity
Importing paddles, nets, and court materials is costly and inconsistent.

  • Player displacement
As communities shift frequently, UPF provides mobile training sessions and customizable kits.

  • Limited coaching resources
Certified instructors are few, and training materials are actively being translated and adapted for Ukrainian use.

  • Funding constraints
With national resources focused on survival and recovery, sports development depends on international partnerships and long-term collaboration.

These challenges do not define the work — but they explain why sustained, thoughtful support matters.

HOW THIS WORK CONTINUES

Building pickleball in Ukraine is not a single moment or milestone. It is ongoing work — shaped by changing conditions, limited resources, and the steady commitment of people who believe sport should remain accessible, even in difficult times.

Programs must adapt. Equipment wears out. Coaches need tools. Communities shift. Development continues only through sustained collaboration between local leadership and international partners.

The Freedom Fighter initiative exists as part of that continuity — a practical mechanism that helps keep paddles on courts, training consistent, and players connected to a global pickleball community.

Progress here is not measured in headlines. It is measured in regular play, shared routines, and the quiet persistence of people showing up — rally after rally.
